Following a successful world premiere at Brighton Rocks Film Festival back in June, short film ‘Chokehold’ continues its festival run with a string of Official Selections and Award Nominations as we enter the autumn. Produced by camakel productions in association with YSP Media, our BFI NETWORK short has recently received nominations at BIFA-qualifying festivals including Mansfield Town Film Festival and Worcester Film Festival in the categories of Local Voices and Best Midlands Film respectively. With our production firmly rooted in the region these awards are hugely significant for the team and we’re incredibly grateful for the opportunity to celebrate and showcase the creative talent in this part of the UK.
Launching at Flatpack Festival in Birmingham as part of a BFI NETWORK X Film Hub Midlands event earlier this year, Chokehold returns to the city for two festivals over the next few months. In October we’ll be screening as an Official Selection at the Forward Film and Television Festival and in November at the Birmingham Film Festival where the film is nominated for Best Young Male Actor (Eddie Coates) and in the Best Stunts and Choreography category. Journeying further north we’ve recently screened at the terrific Lytham International Film Festival, with Chokehold writer/director Christopher Bevan taking part in a Q&A to reflect on the creation and production of the film.
It has been a joy to share Chokehold with audiences so far and with more screenings in the calendar and more festival notifications to come, we hope that the film will continue on this journey over the next year or so before we look ahead to what comes next. In the meantime we’re just enjoying this chance to share the film with audiences and celebrate the completion of this true passion project.
